2026-2027 Message from Principal Gypsy Hernández...

Dear McClure Health Science High School Families,

I hope you and your loved ones are enjoying a safe and restful summer.

As we embark on another school year, I am excited to partner with you in helping every student pursue their dreams, reach their goals, and realize their full potential.

As a first-generation immigrant, a mother of three children who have attended Gwinnett County schools, and more than 20 years of working experience in medicine, molecular biology research, and education, I have a deep personal connection to McClure Health Science High School. Having spent my first 10 years in education as a teacher and assistant principal at Meadowcreek High School, returning to McClure Health Science to serve our students, families, teachers, and staff has been a true privilege. Each day, I am inspired to lead our school toward our shared vision of becoming a world-class health science high school known for making a positive impact in our students’ lives.

At McClure Health Science, students experience rigorous academics alongside unique college and career opportunities and partnerships with organizations such as Piedmont Eastside Hospital, Northside Hospital, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton, Gwinnett Public Health, and Gwinnett County Public School clinics. Students can participate in internships, clinical experiences, and earn industry certifications in Patient Care Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine, Medical Front Office, Computer Science, Marketing, and Audio/Video/Film Production. We are equally committed to developing student leadership, service, and belonging. Programs such as No Place for Hate and Peer Leadership help create a culture where every student feels respected, valued, and supported.

This past year, we added a new Pharmacy Technician pathway, earned AP Gold Level Honor Roll recognition, secured a $50,000 grant, and continued to be recognized among Georgia’s top high schools by U.S. News & World Report. Our proudest achievement, however, is our students’ success: The Class of 2026 earned nearly $6 million in scholarships, while our six-year graduation rate remained above 90 percent!

As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, we remain focused on academic excellence, community, and service, equipping our students with the college and career knowledge and skills they need to build a promising future. Our school spirit is known as “The Pulse,” and we invite you to “Feel the Pulse” as we continue to grow and thrive together.

I look forward to welcoming your family at Open House on Friday, July 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Yours in Service,

Dr. Gypsy Hernández
