Health Science
Intro to Health Science: The foundational course for all Health Science pathways and is a prerequisite for all other Healthcare Science pathway courses. Fundamental healthcare skills development is initiated including microbiology, basic life support and first aid.
Essentials of Healthcare / Anatomy & Physiology (2nd Course): Anatomy and Physiology is a vital part of most healthcare post‐ secondary education programs. The Essentials of Healthcare is a medical‐focused anatomy course addressing the physiology of each body system, along with the investigation of common diseases, disorders and emerging diseases. 2 Paired Credits. Counts as 4th/5th Science.
Patient Care Fundamentals (3rd course): This course covers employability skills, how to communicate effectively, and meeting etiquette. Students will demonstrate creativity by asking challenging questions and applying innovative procedures and methods. Patient Care Fundamentals provides an introductory look at becoming a nursing assistant.
Health Information Medical Office (3rd Course): This course covers research and performance of advanced technical and skills in multiple healthcare fields, research in complementary and alternative medicine, and public health research and awareness
Sports Medicine (3rd Course): The course is appropriate for students who wish to pursue a career in healthcare with a focus on the musculoskeletal system, injury assessment, injury prevention, or rehabilitation including careers in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitative Services. This course will enable students to receive initial exposure to therapeutic services skills and attitudes applicable to the healthcare industry. See Mr. Boulware (C103) for more information.
Exercise Physiology (3rd Course)***: This program prepares students with knowledge and skills needed to become a certified personal trainer. Future career placements can also include kinesiology and sports medicine.
Allied Health and Medicine (3rd Course): This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to become effective and efficient multi‐skilled healthcare providers as they develop a working knowledge of various allied health opportunities. Includes Phlebotomy and EKG certifications.

Computer Science
Intro to Software Technology / AP Computer Science Principles: This course is designed for high school students to understand, communicate, and adapt to a digital world as it impacts their personal life, society, and the business world. Paired with AP Computer Science Principles: Learn about the processor, write programs, and develop algorithms to solve simple problems.
AP Computer Science A: Get familiar with the concepts and tools of computer science as you learn a subset of the Java programming language. You'll do hands‐on work to design, write, and test computer programs that solve problems or accomplish tasks.
Communication Technology
Audio Video Tech: Levels 1, 2, or 3: Explore behind the scenes at a broadcast studio. Create scripts, set up lighting and sound, operate digital cameras, and teleprompters.
Marketing
Marketing Principles: Learn basic marketing concepts and the role of marketing in our economy.
Marketing & Entrepreneurship: Marketing and Entrepreneurship begins an in‐depth and detailed study of marketing while also focusing on management with specific emphasis on small business ownership. School

Work Based Learning
Students will be released early from school for 1 period. Must have a stable job and work approximately 10 hours per week.

Internship/Gifted Internship
The internship program provides students with an
opportunity to experience hands‐on work in a field related to each student’s academic focus. Students in the internship program are released to leave campus during this course in order to experience the

4th Year Science Options
AP Environmental Science: College level course work that covers ecology, energy resources, conservation, and pollution.
Forensic Science: Explore the scientific and technological aspects of criminal investigations; topics include DNA, fingerprinting, blood, and collection of evidence.
AP Biology: College‐level biology coursework; advanced labs, analyze & explain the “whys” of biological science. Meets 4th year Science
requirement for 12th grade.
AP Computer Science Principles: Learn about the processor, write programs, and develop algorithms to solve simple problems. College Board assessment at the end of the program.
Epidemiology: This course is designed to extend student investigations that begin in Biology. It integrates scientific investigations using real world situations to find patterns and determine causation of pathological (infectious disease) conditions.
Academic Electives
AP Psychology***: Examine the scientific nature of psychology, as well as brain and human development. College Board Assessment end of course.
World Languages: Spanish, Spanish for Native Speakers, French. Learn skills related to reading, writing, listening, and speaking; study about cultures and customs and become globally aware of other nations.
Current Issues in Health Care: This course is designed to examine the issue of healthcare through the lens of current issues that impact the subject. Topics include: Economics, Government, Environment, Families, and Technology. (One semester)
Medical Ethics and the Law: This course is designed to examine the medical law through the lens of current practice and ethical decisions aligned to the legal considerations. Topics include: legal principles of
medical care, ethics, medical leadership and the law, role of government, implications of modifying healthcare, and liability. (One semester)
African American Studies (American Mosaic Series): This course aims to broaden the knowledge and understanding of students interested in learning about the history, citizenship, culture, economics, science,
technology, geography, and political contributions and realities of African Americans in the United States. This course is paired in the spring with Ethnic Studies, another course in the Mosaic Series which explores the same topics in other cultures. (10th – 12th Grade)
Journalism: This course focuses on journalistic writing through analysis of newspapers, yearbooks, literary magazines, and broadcast journalism publications. Reading, writing, and critical thinking are key components as students explore the power and influence of journalism. Students will publish the yearbook as well as a digital news magazine. World Dance Forms: For students interested in learning the basic techniques of dance.
Music Technology: For students interested in composing and producing their own music. Students have the resources to create any type of music from the next great pop tune to a modern symphony. Four Levels Available.
Visual Arts
Visual Comp I & II (2D/3D Art): Beginning level class; experience with two and three dimensional art work; learn basic skills of drawing, painting, clay, and sculpture.
Drawing & Painting I & II*: Explore a variety of drawing, painting, and printmaking techniques in a range of materials, styles, and subject matter. See Mrs. Zamora (D118)
AP Studio Art: Students build a college‐board portfolio for Advanced Placement submission throughout the year. Additional options will also include AP 2D Art, and AP 3D Art.

Physical Education
Lifetime Sports: Students will practice and learn elements of lifetime fitness, including running, cycling, yoga, and basic team sports. Multiple Levels Available.
Body Sculpting: Basic instruction on methods to condition the body; strength training and physical fitness training. Multiple Levels Available.
Other Electives
Peer Leading: 11th/12th grade only. This course provides students with a framework for understanding the problem‐solving process, opportunities to participate in meaningful activities that affect our
society in positive ways (civic participation), conflict resolution training, and effective communication skill development. Other course topics include adhering to ethical codes of practice and exercising tolerance.

Library Science: Students learn about the inner workings of the Media Center and its resources, including circulation (check out), shelving, printing, etc. Application Required: See Mrs. Sly (Media Center)
Office Aide: Students in the office aide program work directly with administrators, counselors and clerical support staff. Students in the program assist in managing the various functions of the office, which
