Patient Care Technician (PCT)
Patient Care Fundamentals is the third course in the Health Science Career Cluster pathway. This course covers employability skills, how to communicate effectively, and meeting healthcare etiquette. Students will demonstrate creativity by asking challenging questions and applying innovative procedures and methods.
Patient Care Fundamentals provides training in clinical skills to include blood pressure monitoring, phlebotomy, electrocardiogram lead placement and performance, ambulating patients, and assistance with patient daily activities. Introduction to patient assessment and clinical competency is provided through this course.
Upon completion of all three courses in the health science pathway, students will take an End of Pathway Assessment (EOPA). The EOPA is administered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and provides the student with a NATIONALLY recognized certification to begin working in the healthcare environment.
