Naviance

Before any transcripts, recommendations, or school reports can be sent to Common App schools, you must sign the FERPA Release in your Common App account and connect your Common App and Naviance Accounts.

When you log in to Common App, the FERPA release is found on the My Colleges tab.

1. Select one of your colleges, and then select Recommenders and FERPA.
2. Check Yes, I waive my rights on the Recommenders and FERPA waiver section of the Common App. It is generally recommended by both admissions offices and recommenders that you should WAIVE your right to view recommendations.  
3. Follow the link to release authorization. Once you have done this for one college, it will be applied to all of your applications. 

Matching your Naviance and Common App Accounts (VIDEO)

1. Log in to Naviance through the Student Portal
2. Click Colleges I’m Applying To
3. Click the pink plus sign to add a college.
4. Begin typing the name of the school you want to add.
   1. Once you find the school, select it, then select your app type (Early Decision, Regular Decision, etc.) If you are not sure of the application type or deadline, you can skip this for now and edit later.
   2. Select how you will submit your application: Common App or Direct to Institution. (MHSHS strongly prefers Common App when available).  
   3. Click Add and Request Transcript
   4. If you have matched accounts, the colleges you have added on Common App may automatically populate. Double check that the correct application type (ED, Early Action, Regular Decision, etc.) is selected. Only add colleges you are applying to! This is the master list for transcripts, documents, and letters.

Requesting Transcripts in Naviance (VIDEO)

1. From the Colleges tab in Naviance Student, click on Letters of Recommendation.
2. Click Add Request.
3. Select a teacher from the drop-down list. It is important to note that teachers will only be available in this dropdown list if they have been added to Naviance, given a user account, and had the box checked to appear in the teacher dropdown list. If the teacher is missing from the dropdown list, email your counselor.
4. Select the specific colleges you want your teacher to write a letter for (please note, this will be a general letter sent to all the colleges you request).
